Hey there. My name is Georgina or as my friends like to call me, George. I am 23-years-old, born & bred in London and although I am well on my way to bankruptcy, I still live in London despite moving out of my parents’ place…
After graduating from the University of Nottingham in 2017, much like the typical graduate, I did not know what career path I was going to attempt, so I decided a gap yah (or two) would be a good idea. Like many of you out there, I am guilty of making very ambitious plans that I then struggle to achieve…
My original plan was to do a law conversion and get a training contract after my year out (disclosure, this did not happen), which would consist of six months of working and saving before doing six months in South America, travelling and teaching through TEFL.

What actually happened…
I worked as a waitress for a year, figured out I could not afford a law conversion and that after three years of studying, the last thing I wanted to do was endure an online teaching course. So instead, I worked, somehow saved nowhere near enough money, and went interrailing for a month with two of my best friends (more about this trip later.) I also treated myself to a birthday trip to Iceland for two weeks to visit another close friend who I spent the year working with, while this trip was incredible, these plans did not help my mission to save up for South America…
Adult life begins… or not.

September 2018 was the month I was due to begin adult life, get a job in London, move out and start working up that dreaded career ladder. However, while I made some incredible memories interrailing and road-tripping through Iceland, I still had a deep desire to visit South America, particularly Peru where my mother was born. So, quite spontaneously, I decided to third wheel two friends from uni on their lads trip away – I flew out to meet Bambi and Alex in Peru for a month and then flew to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands to explore with my oldest and dearest friend Ciara.
After the trip of a lifetime, I finally decided to settle down and get a job…shock, I still did not know what career path was for me but after copious amounts of research and a very dreary looking bank account, I decided on marketing and advertising.
For the last year, I have been working at a small advertising agency, I started as the Social Media Coordinator, took on office management and am now an Account Manager. So to all of you out there who think you need your career path mapped out or to those of you who think that once you get your first job, the progression ladder would be simple, just look at me and take comfort in learning that it probably won’t be, and that’s okay.

During this first year of work, the travelling bug, of course, did not leave me and I decided to hike Mount Kilimanjaro with my uni friend, Nicole (the only friend crazy enough to spend 2 grand on the most physically and mentally challenging ‘holiday’ ever.) Even though I categorically could not afford this trip, it was the most incredible and rewarding experience and so, the money hole I am currently in was completely worth it.
So, why blogging now?
As you are all well aware, COVID-19 has left us social creatures with a lot of extra hours we are not used to. After being furloughed and taking a week to be a complete sloth, I decided I need to have a productive yet enjoyable outlet, hence this blog (which I set up a year ago and forgot about…)
This blog will explore the many adventures of my gap ‘yah’, some which I would love to relive and some which I still can’t believe happened, while delving into my current stumbles and achievements as I continue to figure out what the hell I want to do with my life.
If any of you have recently been furloughed, let me know what you’re getting up to, I am a sucker for a routine and looking at seven weeks with less structure is daunting.
That’s all for now.
